.God is going to shake Egypt to its core. The reason? Human pride and arrogance. We must build our lives on a foundation that is not built on the sand of human wisdom, but on the rock of the work and Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Where do you run to when life seems to be crashing down around you? Some of us may run to people we know that will bring us comfort and give us a pep talk so that we are able to go out and face the struggles in our lives… our parents or a trusted friend. For many a place of solitude is where we run to escape the trials of our lives.
But what if there was no escaping the trouble that we find ourselves in? What if it is so overwhelming that it destroys everything that we know as normal? Where do we go, where do we run to escape?
We all like it when things are under control. When we can see where things are going and they seem to be going according to our plans. We feel comfort when we plan for something to occur and it turns out just like we planned. Many times before we enter a situation we will work it out in our heads how we think it sh…
One of the most dangerous attributes that God’s creation can express is pride. It was pride that led to the fall in the Garden. It was pride that led to the separation at the Tower of Babel. It was pride that led Israel to reject God and demand their own king. And it was pride that led David to have Uriah killed so that he could cover his sin with Bathsheba. The list goes on and on.
We can place our hope in people, and they will fail us. We can place our hope in the world, and it will destroy us. We can place our hope in ourselves, and our hearts will deceive us. Our only hope is in Christ and in the kingdom to come.
We are an arrogant people, no different from the people in Isaiah’s day. Can we see the sign of the times and will we repent or will God have to ramp up His wrath to get our attention?
